Famiglia Mancini has been feeding São Paulo's soul since 1980, turning Rua Avanhandava into a slice of Tuscany with operatic flair. Everything here is abundant: pizzas arrive in almost comical sizes, antipasti cover every inch of the table, and a pianist plays standards while veteran waiters glide through the rustic brick-and-wood dining room. It's the kind of place that feels like a neighborhood trattoria — if that neighborhood had a Hollywood budget. Warm without being intimate, traditional without being stuffy. Come hungry, leave overfed, and soak in the old-school São Paulo magic that still thrives in Centro.
Thursday through Saturday evenings, when the piano is playing and the dining room is alive. Arrive early or book ahead — the wait is legendary.
Patience required. Even with a reservation, the pace here is Italian: leisurely, generous, never rushed.
